FOX 10 Phoenix reported that a Maricopa County home near 122nd and Southern avenues was destroyed after being struck by lightning during a July 2, 2025 monsoon storm. The family escaped, but the report described severe fire and roof damage.
A direct strike can involve the roof, attic, wiring, metal systems and connected electronics. Protection planning is most effective before monsoon season, but reconstruction and reroofing can also provide an opportunity to coordinate a concealed or low-visibility system.
What Property Owners Should Do
- Call 911 for smoke, fire, heat or a burning odor.
- Do not enter a damaged attic or climb onto a storm-damaged roof.
- Document visible damage after the property is declared safe.
- Arrange the appropriate electrical, roofing, solar, HVAC and lightning protection evaluations.
- Consider protection planning while roof or reconstruction work is open.
